Camagüey, July 11 - The failure the day before against Granma in Bayamo put this province's team against the wall, leaving only one option: to win. Otherwise, they will be eliminated from the U-23 National Baseball Tournament semifinals.
The Camagüey’s team lost 3-1 yesterday, neutralized by an effective performance by eastern starter Yurisel Rivera, who allowed only one single and struck out eight in seven innings.
The Toros scored in the fourth inning to tie the score, but the hosts regained control, which they never lost again, in the bottom of the fifth against Riquelmi Odelín, the first of the visiting pitchers, as the game was finished by the young Edenis Cruz.
The setback forces them to prevail today, as their place in the final, which is won by the first to reach two wins, is at risk.
Therefore, there is no tomorrow, although some still hope for a reaction from the Camagüey team, who owe a lot to the bat in their hands.
And a poor offense means little chance of success, even though the pitching has clearly been the team's best.
On the western side of the tournament, Habana defeated Villa Clara, the defending champion, 2-0 in the individual subseries, and now has a ticket to compete for the championship crown.
