Havana, July 30 – The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) will celebrate its 65th anniversary on August 23rd with a broad program of activities across the country that will pay tribute to Vilma Espín's 95th birthday, Mariana Grajales' 210th birthday, and the 100 years anniversary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
Yaneidys Pérez Cruz, member of the FMC National Secretariat and responsible for the Ideological sphere, announced that visits to historical sites, exhibitions, workshops, and political and cultural galas will be held.
Pérez Cruz highlighted the traveling exhibition Fidel and the Women’s Revolution, the tributes to the heroines Haydée Santamaría, Melba Hernández, Fe del Valle and Vilma herself, the cancellation of the FMC 65 postage stamp and the presentation of prizes for different competitions.
From the organization's national headquarters in Havana, she also discussed the exchanges that will take place with young people on drugs, pregnancy, and violence, intergenerational dialogues with founders and grassroots leaders, a colloquium on justice, and meetings at maternity homes.
There will also be volunteer work days for food production, the inauguration of children's playhouses, plenary sessions with social workers, and activities in homes for the elderly and children without parental care.
Teresa Amarelle Boué, member of the Party's Political Bureau and Secretary General of the FMC, emphasized the importance of the traveling exhibition, which will tour the organization's 11 congresses.
She emphasized the commitment of the last such meeting, held in March 2024, to continue promoting public policies that benefit and protect women in Cuba.
Since its founding on August 23, 1960, just months after the triumph of the Revolution and under the leadership of the beloved Vilma Espín Guillois (1930-2007), the FMC has embraced women's causes and emancipation, becoming a powerful weapon in the fulfillment of the nation's noblest tasks.
