Cuba and the DPRK celebrated 65 years of diplomatic ties


Havana, September 17. - Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel led a ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the 80th anniversary of the Work's Party of Korea, the Presidency reported today.

According to the website, speaking at the event, the Asian country's ambassador, Han Su Chol, recalled that on August 29, 1960, our country established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Cuba with the aim of developing bilateral and friendly relations that encompass all spheres.

Thanks to that day, he said, the proud history between our two countries and parties has been able to advance dynamically for 65 years, the diplomat stated, noting that these friendly relations were established by the Great Leader, Comrade Kim Il Sung, and Comrade Fidel Castro Ruz.

Cuban-North Korean ties were consolidated and developed by Comrade Kim Jong Il and Comrade Raúl Castro Ruz, and continue to be developed today by Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Work's Party of Korea, and Comrade Díaz-Canel, the diplomat emphasized.

Representing Cuba, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez noted that these commemorations are an expression of the historic feelings of friendship, solidarity, mutual support, and cooperation that unite us.

They are a reflection of the path taken in the common effort of our nations to preserve the essential historical memory and project our relations into the future, the Cuban Foreign Minister emphasized.

The Minister reaffirmed that "we have full confidence that, under the leadership of our Parties, we will continue to strengthen the history and tradition of brotherhood and solidarity that unites us, and we will expand collaboration for the benefit of our peoples."

High-ranking Cuban government officials and representatives of national agencies and organizations, as well as diplomatic representatives from the DPRK, were present at the commemorative act for both events. (Text and photo: PL)
