Havana, Oct 7th - Cuba's representatives did not have luck on the second day of the Lima 2025 Youth World Judo Championship.
The three who took to the mat fell in their first match, leaving them without possibilities of advancing in the competition.
Glenda Masó (70 kg) couldn't even reach the first minute of combat against Japanese Rin Maeda, who defeated her by waza-ari-awasete-ippon.
Jon Kuan Fleitas (73 kg) was overcome by Uzbek Muhriddin Marufov, who gave him an ippon before the duel reached half of the four regulatory minutes.
Alejandro César (81 kg) also did not reach two minutes on the mat against Canadian Artem Neyolov, who left him out by ippon in the first round.
None of the victors of the Cubans managed to advance in their respective brackets, which speaks to the fact that perhaps they were not the strongest rivals in their divisions.
The greatest medal hopes for the Cubans now fall on Zail Ramírez (100 kg) and Deyanara Curbelo (+78 kg), who were seeded in the second round and will wait for a rival in that instance this Tuesday.
Curbelo recently won the gold medal at the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción 2025, the same competition to which Zail could not reach due to health issues, when a crown was expected from him.
On the last day of this event Lisrialis González (78 kg), bronze medalist in Asunción, will also compete, from whom a good performance is expected, despite the fact that she will debut against Kazakh Saltanat Akhmetova, runner-up of the Asian Youth Judo Cup of Almaty 2025. (Text and photo: JIT)
