Dominican campaign of solidarity with Cuba to hold panel on peace

Santo Domingo, Dec 6.- The Dominican Campaign of Solidarity with Cuba has called for a panel on Peace and Solidarity in Latin America and the Caribbean, as part of the activities for the centenary of the birth of the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Roberto Payano, national coordinator of the Campaign, reported that the panel will take place this Saturday in the auditorium of the Faculty of Dentistry at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD, for its acronym in Spanish), starting at 16:00 local time

Participants will include Julia Cabrera, official from the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP, for its acronym in Spanish), Luis Pedraza, union leader from Puerto Rico, and the Dominican educator Amaury Pérez.

The event will occur at a time when the United States is reinforcing its military presence in the Caribbean through agreements and operations that generate concern and rejection in various social movements in the region due to their potential impact on the stability, peace, and sovereignty of the countries in the geographical area.

These actions, observers note, reactivate historical tensions and open a debate on the risks of U.S. interference in regional affairs.

Next Sunday, the Campaign will celebrate its 35th national solidarity meeting, the same number of years since its founding on June 14, a date that coincides with the birth of two historical figures united by emancipatory processes: Major General of the Liberation Army Antonio Maceo (1845-1896) and the Argentine-Cuban revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara (1928-1967).

Dedicated to Fidel Castro—who on August 13, 2026, would turn 100 years old—the meeting will reject the U.S. blockade against Cuba and the island's permanence on Washington's unilateral list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism, Payano advanced to this media outlet.

On that occasion, the Campaign's leadership will present a summary of the work developed during 2025 in support of Cuba, as well as projections for the next year. (Text and photo: PL)
