Havana, Feb 12.- Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, reiterated the feelings of brotherhood Cubans have with Palestinians, while receiving at the Palace of the Revolution a delegation from the Bureau of the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of that Arab people.
"We are a sister nation of Palestine," Díaz-Canel expressed and recalled that the largest of the Antilles was among the co-founders of that Committee, reports the Presidency's website.
Thanking them for the reception, Coly Seck, Chairman of the Committee on Palestine and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Senegal to the UN, highlighted the time the Cuban President set aside for this meeting amidst so many engagements.
Ambassador Seck explained that, as part of the United Nations General Assembly, this Committee is comprised of 25 members and 24 observers who "share the opinion that Palestine must be free, that Palestine must be a sovereign State," objectives for which they work and develop a broad agenda both at the UN and within other multilateral bodies.
Attending the meeting were Political Bureau member Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Emilio LozadaGarcía, Head of the International Relations Department of the Party's Central Committee; Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and other officials.
The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People is a subsidiary body of the United Nations General Assembly, established in 1975, with the primary responsibility of mobilizing international support for a peaceful, just, and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on the two-State solution, and whose central axis is the promotion of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, national independence, sovereignty, and the return of the refugees.
Cuba, which has historically maintained an unwavering position in defense of and solidarity with the just cause of the Palestinian people, is a founding member and holds one of the vice-presidencies of the Committee, with the permanent commitment to contribute in every possible way to legitimate international efforts aimed at ending the genocide being committed against the Palestinian people.
