Moscow, Feb 16.- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has denounced the brutal attempt by the United States to energetically suffocate the people of his country and thanked African leaders for rejecting this pressure on the island.
"We thank the African leaders for the approval of the resolution condemning the United States blockade, which again called for Cuba's exclusion from the unilateral List of State Sponsors of Terrorism," the president wrote.
"Their courage is even greater in these times of the brutal US attempt to energetically suffocate all our people," he added.
On Sunday, the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union approved, for the 17th consecutive time, a resolution condemning the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba. The adopted document includes the explicit call from the African body to remove the Caribbean nation from the unilateral and unjustified list of countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism, emphasizing the arbitrary nature of said designation.
On January 29, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order declaring a national emergency in the face of the alleged unusual and extraordinary threat that, according to Washington, Cuba supposedly poses to the security of the North American country and the region. The text accuses the Cuban government of aligning itself with numerous hostile countries, harboring transnational terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, and allowing the deployment of sophisticated military and intelligence capabilities from Russia and China on the island.
On these bases, the imposition of tariffs on countries that sell oil to the Caribbean nation was announced, in addition to threats of reprisals against those who act contrary to the White House's executive order. Subsequently, the White House resident acknowledged that his Administration maintains contacts with Havana and indicated that they intend to reach an agreement, although he described the Caribbean country as a decaying nation that can no longer rely on Venezuela to sustain itself.
These words take place in the midst of the economic and commercial blockade that the US has maintained against Cuba for more than six decades. The embargo, which seriously affects the country's economy, has now been reinforced with numerous coercive and unilateral measures by the White House.
"Cuba is a free, independent, and sovereign nation. No one dictates to us what to do. Cuba does not attack, it has been attacked by the US for 66 years, and does not threaten, it prepares, ready to defend the homeland to the last drop of blood," stated Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.
"This new measure evidences the fascist, criminal, and genocidal nature of a cabal that has hijacked the interests of the American people for purely personal ends," affirmed the president. All unfounded accusations from Washington have been systematically rejected by Havana, which has warned that it will defend its territorial integrity. (Text and photo: RT)
