Belarus, Cuba, oil blockade, United States

Belarusian Chancellor extols the valor and heroism of the people of Cuba

Minsk, Feb 16.- The Chancellor of Belarus, Maxim Ryzhenkov, today extolled the valor and heroism with which the people and Government of Cuba are facing the oil blockade imposed by the United States.

Upon receiving the Cuban ambassador in Minsk, Santiago Pérez, the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs ratified his country's unwavering policy of friendship and solidarity with the Caribbean nation in complex times, such as the present ones.

In this regard, the head of the Caribbean diplomatic mission stated to Prensa Latina that during the exchange Ryzhenkov expressed the willingness of the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, and his Administration to grant humanitarian aid to alleviate the energy crisis that the largest of the Antilles is experiencing.

Likewise, Pérez commented that both nations are working to strengthen economic and commercial ties in different sectors, issues that will be analyzed in the next Cuba-Belarus Intergovernmental Commission, which is scheduled to take place next March.

Previously, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry condemned the oil blockade actions that the United States imposed on Cuba last January 29.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus continues to follow with concern the situation surrounding Cuba and the supply of energy resources to that country, the diplomatic entity stated through a communiqué.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry stated that it observes with unease how the threat of the current escalation in the Caribbean could turn into a serious humanitarian crisis with unpredictable consequences.

Minsk constantly insists on the unacceptability of applying unilateral coercive measures that create obstacles to commercial relations between states.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that these sanctioning actions hinder the process of comprehensive socio-economic development and make it difficult to guarantee the well-being of the population.

In the document, the Belarusian authorities expressed their firm conviction that all differences must be resolved through peaceful dialogue and within the framework of international law. (Text and photo: PL)
