Brazilian solidarity prepares celebration for Fidel's 100th birthday

Brasilia, Feb. 27.- The Solidarity Movement with Cuba in the capital of Brazil continues today with the preparations for the event for the centenary of the birth of Fidel Castro, which will take place next March 12.

A second organizational meeting held last night at the Teatro de losBancarios in Brasilia was attended by members of political parties, social movements, university students and members of groups friendly to the Caribbean country.

Several speakers stressed that the political-cultural act next month will allow us to remember and exalt the legacy of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution (1926-2016).

They agreed that that day will also evoke just causes that Fidel Castro supported during his life, a great defender, they explained, of the unity of Latin America.

At the meeting, several Brazilian initiatives were mentioned to help the largest of the Antilles in the face of the challenges it currently faces with the tightening of the US blockade.

GisseleCarraro, of the Center for Cuban Studies of the University of Brasilia, underlined in statements to Prensa Latina the political and cultural nature of the event.

"Fidel always defended solidarity, and defended and practiced internationalism among the peoples of the entire world," Carraro opined.

She added that on March 12 there will be no shortage of denunciations of the aggressions that are occurring against Cuba and other Latin American and world countries.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on January 29 declaring the largest of the Antilles a threat to US national security and providing for the imposition of tariffs on oil suppliers.

For the Solidarity Movement with Cuba, this decision confirms the persistence of a policy of economic pressure against a people who have historically demonstrated their solidarity vocation. (PL) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
