Moscow, Feb. 27.- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi, announced this Friday that he has held a telephone conversation with his Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, to discuss regional issues, amid the escalation with Pakistan.
During the call, the chancellor noted that "the recent actions of the country's security and defense forces" were carried out to safeguard the sovereignty, airspace and territorial integrity of Afghanistan, and specified that the designated objectives were successfully achieved.
At the same time, he stressed that Kabul does not support violence and has always preferred to resolve problems through understanding and mutual respect, although — he highlighted — this approach is only effective if the other party demonstrates a practical and sincere will to reach a solution.
For his part, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi noted that Qatar seeks a reduction in tensions and that his country is willing to play a positive role when the opportunity arises. Furthermore, he highlighted the need for a substantive resolution of the problems and indicated that efforts are being coordinated with the relevant countries to achieve that objective.
New wave of tensions
The Pakistani Air Force attacked during the night the Afghan capital, Kabul, as well as Kandahar and Paktia province, after Afghanistan launched cross-border operations this Thursday against Pakistani military installations. These actions took place after Islamabad attacked Afghan territory last Saturday, in response to recent suicide bombings and other actions that occurred in Pakistani territory, responsibility for which was claimed by the Pakistani Taliban movement and the Islamic State of Khorasan Province.
Attacks between the two neighboring countries continue this Friday. (Text and photo: RT)
