Exports and foreign investment: decisive for the economic development of Camagüey (+ Audio)


Camagüey, February 21.- Among Camagüey's economic priorities is the increase in exports and foreign investment projects, as sources through which foreign currency is received and financing is generated that develops primary sectors, factors that contribute to transforming the current situation in the country.

In the annual balance of the Directorate of Foreign Trade, Foreign Investment and International Economic Cooperation (COMEX) in the province of Camagüey, it emerged that at the end of last year the materialization of exports reached 66 percent of what was expected, with the greatest non-compliance in the charcoal of the Agriculture system, artificial shrimp, frozen shrimp and tobacco.

The director of the aforementioned structure, Juan Ricardo Poll Gean, listed among the causes of the above the difficulties with securing supplies, packaging and transportation on some occasions; together with the shortages of fuels and lubricants and the lack of control and monitoring of this important issue in companies and entities.

Although objective factors persist in this non-compliance, others of a subjective nature are manifested, assessed Governor Jorge Enrique Sutil Sarabia, and urged that there be a correspondence between territorial development strategies and the potential for exports and foreign investment, especially in the agricultural branch.

At the meeting, Daniel Urrutia Olsen, director of Territorial Attention of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, advocated the promotion of small foreign investment projects in the municipalities for the benefit of said demarcations, and praised, for example, the results of the Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology from Camagüey, which for the first time managed to export the Porvac vaccine, against classical swine fever, and biofertilizers.

For his part, Roberto Conde Silverio, member of the Provincial Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, highlighted the effort in this decisive front in the midst of so many limitations, and urged better results, taking into account the infrastructure available in the demarcation and that which can be revive; At the same time, he called on businessmen to greater projection and preparation in this priority, for which the contribution of the University of Camagüey and the Municipal University Centers is decisive.
