Francophonie Month in Cuba, closer to both peoples

Havana, Mar 7. - The Month of Francophonie in Cuba returns to activate in this capital and in the eastern province of Santiago the days of exhibitions, concerts, meetings of literature, cinema, visual arts and music, its organizers announced today.

During a press conference, the director of the French Alliance in Cuba, Alexandre Guillochon, and the Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Action of the French Embassy, Olivier Giron, announced the program which began with the conference “The Autobiographical Temptation”, by the Belgian writer Jean-Philippe Toussaint, and then the photographic exhibition “Couronnes Éphémeres” (Crowned Ephemerals).

The activity was in charge of the Franco-Venezuelan artist Maya Dagnino, who investigates with this exhibition the complexities of motherhood and the challenges of being a mother-artist, being at the same time a mother of artists, as outlined in the argument that describes this exhibition.

On March 7, another exhibition is presented, this time, women as protagonists, “Soliloquio de mujer”, in which its author remembers the female figure through her representation in religion.

Here, the representation of the Virgin Mary and her different advocations are seen as the center of the expressions contained: sounds and smells, together with the multiple universe of visual expressions.

During this Month of Francophonie in Cuba, its organizers have announced two major activities, among the most anticipated, it is the presentation of the French company Bakhus with a panel on the influence of hip hop on contemporary dance.

The group itself will be in a single performance on March 15 with the play “Gaia 2.0”, with four men interacting on the stage of the National Theater of Cuba to deliver here a mix of breakdance, with the most contemporary of world dance.

Meanwhile, the other show expected by the Cuban public is the play “Favez”, in the Adolfo Llauradó hall, in the capital's Vedado, whose presentation will take place from March 18 to 23 when these days conclude.

The Victor Hugo House, story readings, guided tours or a Canadian art workshop for children make up this entire Francophone arsenal in cooperation with island organizations, such as the Ministry of Culture, the Showcase of Wallonia and the French Embassy here. (Text and photo: PL)
