Drinking at least six glasses of water daily reduces the risk of stroke by more than 20 percent, according to a US study today.
The research, published in the Journal of Strokes and Cerebrovascular Diseases, analyzed data from more than 29,000 adults and its results highlighted the biological importance of adequate hydration to maintain vascular and neurological health.
The analysis was based on data from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, collected between 1999 and 2020.
It was published in the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases.
According to this study, stroke is a common neurological disorder primarily characterized by hemiplegia, speech difficulties, and sensory disturbances.
It is also the second leading cause of death and the third leading cause of disability worldwide, and with the aging of the global population, both the incidence and prevalence of stroke are increasing, the researchers indicate.
They add that while traditional risk factors, such as hypertension and diabetes, have been widely studied, modifiable lifestyle factors, particularly dietary habits, have received increasing attention for their potential role in stroke prevention. (Source: Prensa Latina)
