Dengue and chikungunya: a current threat that demands immediate community action

The danger posed by dengue and chikungunya today is a threat that should not be taken lightly. The changing nature of the dengue virus, which can now infect those who have been affected before and, in some cases, host multiple illnesses simultaneously, makes the situation more complex and dangerous.

Furthermore, while chikungunya is generally not fatal, it can leave lasting effects that incapacitate people for months, impacting their quality of life and their family's finances.

This scenario requires a coordinated and effective response, involving different actors and levels of society. Institutions must intensify fumigation and apply larvicide (abate) in main breeding sites, combating the vector in the places where it reproduces. The community, for its part, plays a fundamental role in eliminating breeding grounds by cleaning vacant lots, ditches, and dumps that can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

The battle against dengue and chikungunya is won in every yard, in every corner where the insect can reproduce. It is an effort that requires awareness, discipline, and collaboration among all sectors of society. Only in this way can we reduce the risks and protect the health of our community, confronting this threat with a solid and coordinated strategy.

Ultimately, the prevention and control of these diseases are not only the responsibility of institutions, but a commitment from each and every one of us. The sum of small efforts can make all the difference in the fight against these vectors and their dangers. Everyone's health is at stake, and the time to act is now, in our homes, in our streets, and in our lives. (Maykel Torres La Rosa/Radio Cadena Agramonte) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
