Cuba will celebrate Press Day

Havana, February 21.- Communication professionals from Cuba will carry out the Cuban Press Day from March 5 to 20, in the context of the 132nd anniversary of the Patria newspaper, founded by National Hero José Martí.

Inspired by the idea of ??the Apostle of Cuban independence that “He who tells the truth serves the country better”, on this occasion it will be dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the birth of the prominent patriot Juan Gualberto Gómez and the 95th anniversary of the revolutionary journalist Ernesto Vera Mendez.

As a prelude, on February 23, there will be the proclamation of the winners of the national awards José Martí, for the Work of Life, and Juan Gualberto Gómez, for the work of the year.

The press day will begin with the placement, in the capital's Colón cemetery, of a wreath at the tomb of the patriot and journalist Juan Gualberto Gómez, on the 91st anniversary of his death, and from March 18 to 20, it will close with the third Patria International Colloquium, reported the Cubaperiodistas website.

The program includes the opening of the collective photographic exhibition El Instanto Precise, by Roberto Chile, in the gallery of the headquarters of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC), on March 6.

One day later, at the ALBA Cultural House, the Félix Elmusa Distinction will be awarded to outstanding workers in the sector, and relevant women of the union will receive the honor of their colleagues on the 8th, International Women's Day, at the National Capitol, from where it will be convened the Gender and Communication event.

A softball meeting in the Sports City of Havana will take place on March 10, while on the 12th, students of journalism and the University College of the program will discuss the work of the deceased colleague Ernesto Vera, José Martí National Prize winner and president of the UPEC for many years.

On March 13—one day before the founding of Patria (New York, 1892) and the national ceremony with the awards ceremony, at the José Martí Memorial in the Plaza de la Revolución—retired journalists will talk at the UPEC with young people from the detachment of graduates from all the provinces who came to the capital to reinforce the staff of the national press media. The Public Press Festival, the people's press, will mark the contact of communicators with their audiences on March 16. (PL) (Photo: Cubaperiodistas/Archive)
